Requirements for certification:
- At least 18 years of age
- Criminal Background Check
- Valid CPR
- Valid First Aid (for transportation only)
- Training in Incidents Adversely Affecting Health and Safety
- Training in Individual Rights
- Completed application from ODMRDD.

CPR/ First Aid can be obtained for a fee from various agencies throughout Cuyahoga County including:

How do I get a BCII Background Check?
BCII Background checks can be completed at any of the following locations:
http://www.ag.state.oh.us/business/fingerprint/data/index.asp.
A copy of the BCII results need to be sent to ODMRDD with your application.
Can I establish a group home?
The state of Ohio no longer licenses new group homes for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. There is no new development of group homes in the foreseeable future. The County Board of Mental Retardation does not license MR/DD group homes or typically place individuals with MR/DD into other people’s homes.
What happens after I get certified?
New Providers Immediately after Certification - training will be offered one time per month by NEON at locations throughout Cuyahoga County. See below for dates, locations and registration information.
